As our over 400 dogs have only been sleeping, playing and eating during summer, they have gradually to build up muscles, strenght and endurance.
First start in autumn is always quite an event for the dogs, those who are taken out jump and bark like crazy and also these being left behind join in the common excitement... Every guide in Harriniva is responsible for the training of about 50 dogs, so training them in teams of 10 means 5 starts with frenetic dogs.(protecting your ears is very important at this time of the year if you still want to hear anything after several years in this job).
We started running 5 km and moved now to 6km. Specally for the youngest dogs first rounds were exhausting because they still have to figure out that they have not to galopp for the whole distance, but change to trott after a short time.
My youngsters are Fjord, Fjäll, Frodo and Frosty born in July 2011 and the two sisters Myy and Vilja born in mai 2011. Fortunately I found some time to drive with them on snow in small teams at the end of last season, so when we started training I could put them immediatly in the big teams.
At the moment we have already some snow but we still prefer to use quads for training, they are heavy, have good brakes and are easy to stear.( Building muscles is the priority at the moment)
Saturday they run all the 6 km loop now two days off and next week I'll see how they manage the 9 km...
